Racing Events Later This Year?

Whilst many of the year's racing events have already taken place such as the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March and the famous Grand National in April, there are still two major horse racing events to look forward to later this year, the St. Leger Stakes and the King George VI Chase.

Horse Racing

  • St. Leger Stakes (September)
    Located in Doncaster this race is the oldest of the five classics. The St. Leger Stakes was inaugurated in 1776, which is actually the same year that the United States issued their Declaration of Independence.

    Did you know: the first horse to do the Derby-ST. Leger double was in the year 1800 and it was completed by a horse called Champion; quite the fitting name. There hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in many years; the closest a horse has come was in 2012 by a horse named Camelot.

  • King George VI Chase (Boxing Day)
    With a total of 18 fences and ran over three miles, the King George IV Chase is classed as the second most prestigious chase in Britain; after the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

    This race has a knack of producing popular results, such as Kauto Star with five victories in just six years. As such, it's no surprise thatthis race is enjoyed by the racing fraternity and betting public alike.
